Monster week!

$

Lucy's been studying monsters this week at school and LOVING it.
So, I decided to make her a little monster outfit to wear today.

Do you think she likes it?

Yep. She really was that excited about it.
She was up at 5 am this morning wanting to put her 'soft pant's on.

My Mom bought this fabric for Lucy and she's been carrying it around every since.
This is the first time I've made minky pants for my girls, but it won't be the last.
They made up in a flash and Lucy LOVES them.

Could she be any cuter?

She chose Lynnie Pinnie's Monster Applique #3 out of many, many monster appliques to choose from.

She also talked me into putting her name on her shirt... you guys know I hate it, but she was just too cute and excited to say no.

She even asked me to make a bow to match her outfit, even though she's been wearing headbands at lot more lately.

I threw this bow together this morning before she got on the bus.

I like it, but Lucy was disappointed that it didn't have a monster on it.
Someone needs to make monster hair felt stitchies!!!

It would be cuter with a monster on there.

I got some fabric from Hancock's yesterday with little monsters on it, so I'm going to make her a little apron to wear to school, too. Hopefully I'll get to it today, but it's hard to concentrate since my little sister is at the hospital having my new nephew!

I can't wait to see him.

The Nightmare before Christmas dresses

$

I've been meaning to make the girls some Nightmare before Christmas dresses for a long time now.
So, when Laura at Ellie Inspired had her Hopscotch Design Contest, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to make them.

Of course, I didn't get them done in time to enter the contest.
I have been so busy with customer orders, football, and Halloween preparations, in addition to other things.

I know you guys have missed me on the blog. I've had some really sweet emails expressing that sentiment, as well as some not so nice emails wondering where I've been.
More on that later, maybe... maybe not.

Anyways... I stayed up late finishing these dresses last night and I just had to show you guys because
I'm just so thrilled at how they turned out.

I made Ella's with some really nice red jersey from fabric.com and some black and white cotton prints from Hobby Lobby. The pattern I used is, of course, the Hopscotch Girl pattern by Ellie Inspired.

I appliqued Jack to the front bodice

and added some faux fur trim to the sleeves.

The little clip in her hair is from Just Peachy applique.

I also used the little clippie embroidery file to do the applique on Ella's doll dress.

It was a test and turned out rather big, but Ella was thrilled to death with it.

Lucy's dress skirt is made from some knit fabric that I got about 2 or 3 years ago to make a Sally dress and never did it. The top is made from the same knit as her under garments for her Sally Halloween costume last year.

It's super cute and really soft, but I didn't really get a good shot of it, because....

Lucy was FREEZING!
Here she is after about 3-4 shots saying, "That's all Mom, I'm freezing!"

I appliqued Sally to the front of her dress and LOVE the way it turned out.

I got this file from ebay years ago and it's been on the (never ending to-do) list since.

I didn't have a tiny hair clippie or small file to put Sally on the doll dress, so I just used a little heart button in the same color as her hair.

It was the second dolly dress I made, so it fits much better!
I really love it.

I also made Lucy an adorable bow to go with her dress with some of those bottle cap thingies. I've also had these in my stash forever.

It's so nice to sew for fun and cross things off the list that have been on there forever.

It also feels good to make my little ones so happy.
Aren't they adorable?!

Lucy had a birthday last week, so she is 6 now. :(
They grow up so fast.

Winter coats!

This is what I was working on last night and all day yesterday.

The temps have dropped and the girls have grown out of all the jackets and coats! There was no more putting it off. It jumped ahead of finishing my witch dolls, Halloween costumes, customer orders, cleaning, showering... everything.
They had to have coats for school.

Here they are waiting for the bus this morning.
Aren't they sweet?

I chose Simplicity 2745 for Ella after reading some reviews on Pattern Review. I really like the girly silhouette and I found these big daisy buttons at Wal-Mart that I thought would be so cute!
Ella is super into peace signs and flowers and rainbows... I guess all girls go thru that. I remember being in that phase.

It's a little bit big on her, but it's kinda what I'm going for. I'm hoping that she can wear it the whole season and maybe next year. I made a size 7 straight from the envelope.

I just used some polar fleece and minky on the collar. It went together super fast. I just wish it was lined... and had pockets.

I'm not experienced enough in making coats to feel comfortable changing things around like that yet.
I made Ella a coat last year (that I'm pretty sure I never even posted) that didn't have a lining and I tried to add one.... it ended up looking awful to me (even though Ella LOVED it and wore it all season).
Here it is from November last year.
See how the lining is poking out of the bottom... grrrrr... and on the cuffs...it drove me crazy every time she wore it... which was every day. ha!

I really like making their coats, because I can add special details that they love that we couldn't find in the store, like the soft minky collar.

The only thing I really dislike about this pattern is the narrow hem. It has just a 3/8 inch hem which seems weird and I would have added more to it if I would have read the directions first...

Overall, it's a win, though. Ella loves it and everyone that has seen the pictures has preferred Ella's to Lucy's. Poor Lucy. :(

I'll have to make Ella another one because although I love the way it looks, it lacks practical details like a lining, a hood, and pockets.

Lucy's has all that! Which made it more of a pain to make. It took me nearly the entire day, but I'm so pleased with it.

I originally wanted to put red as the accent with her black and white polka dots, but decided they would be cute if they coordinated. Plus, their school colors are black and gold!

I used a new McCall's pattern 6641 for her jacket. I loved that the lining was included in the pattern, since I've had trouble with that in the past. I really preferred view B, but went with view A, because I didn't want to seam the polka dots. I think I'll make view B this season also, though, maybe in pink or red! It really is a great and simple pattern.

I got her polka dot fleece for a steal at Hancock Fabrics when they had the Fleece Blow Out. I lined it with some flannel backed satin, lined the hood and pockets with minky and added some of Ella's gold fleece on the cuffs and hat band. I don't know what I was thinking with those darling gold cuffs. Lucy is so dirty. I'm sure they will be covered in mud or chocolate milk or ketchup in a few days.

I didn't have any buttons on hand that matched Lucy's coat, so I used the little flowers that came on Ella's button card. Which was good, because they matched perfectly, were the right size, and I spent almost $10 on the buttons... but bad, because they don't really pop and they're hard to button with those little flower petals. I may end up changing them out.

We'll see, Lucy really likes them.
She really likes the hood and pockets being lined in minky, too. What a good idea for her.
That child LOVES minky fabric.

So, there you have it!
Two happy coats for two happy girls.

Now to get to William's..... and those Halloween costumes... and witch dolls.

Halloween 2012

Halloween was so easy this year.

William announced early on that he wanted to be Captain America with muscles... so,
when we saw one at Wal-Mart for $20, I suggested that we just buy one this year.
I was shocked when he said, "Oh good. I've been dying to buy one for years."
Really, kid?

Using this photo for inspiration, he told me the night before school that he needed a utility belt.
We picked one up at the Army Navy Surplus Store in town. He LOVES it! Seriously, I've never seen him so excited about something in my life. The owner told us it was from the 1940's and was exactly what Captain America would have worn. It was extremely rare and in good condition and was actually used in WWII. I wouldn't think any of that would matter to a little boy, but it sure did.

Isn't he adorable?! Of course, I couldn't send him out on Halloween night without something handmade from Mom, so I got him some Captain America fabric and made him a special trick or treat bag.

Ella decided to be Anne of Green Gables this year, because we read the book this summer and she loved it. (eeee! that makes me so proud) But I made her dress for Storybook day several weeks ago, so it was done!

Halloween morning, she was about to die about wearing her costume again... "because she ALREADY wore it to school!", heaven forbid... so she wore her Ariel wedding dress Halloween day to school.
It finally fits perfectly, even though I made it two years ago!

I made that veil in record time Halloween morning before they got on the bus!

But, of course, she wore her Anne of Green Gables for Halloween night.

Complete with red hair! She insisted on that.

Lucy also had to sport the red hair, as she decided to be Merida from Brave for Halloween.

The trends stay the same here: William chooses his costume based on the weapon. In this case, the Captain America shield that he got for his birthday. Ella chooses based on the gorgeousness of the dress. And for Lucy, it's all about the hair.

Merida does have pretty cool hair, although she didn't want the wig, which is a shame, because it really is awesome. Check out my sweet niece Hailey, who sported the wig, and the dress made from my Mom this year. Mom also made Alyssa's costume... isn't it the coolest! She's Bloom from the show Winx Club and Sophie of course, looking adorable in a costume made by my little sister. It's marrying Ariel, too. Then, my sweet niece Emma, who loves Spiderman... despite her Mom's desires for her to be girly.

I used Ellie Inspired's new pattern Winter Twirl for Lucy's Merida costume.

I wish I would have dropped the waistline, so the belt would cover the seam... but I didn't think ahead.. oops.

No chance of Lucy wearing the belt higher to cover the seam either.

I made the belt a little fancy by embroidering one of the little bears on there. I thought it was so cute!

Halloween night:

Halloween day:

Not my favorite costumes ever... but I got to make a bunch of other ones for family members and customers and even myself! yea! I'll show you some more tomorrow!

Ruffle Pants Weekend

$

I made 8 pair of ruffle pants this weekend!
The girls (and the boy, too) need winter clothes, so I just cut them out in bulk and assembly line sewed them up.

Now, I have to make a zillion shirts to match them... because as luck would have it, there's no shirt in their closets to match.

I also found these pants that I made Ella last spring that she has NEVER worn.
I don't know why? They are so darn cute!

So, I told her that if she wasn't going to wear them, that we were going to get rid of them.
Then she finally confessed that she loved the pants, but hated the shirt. I don't know why... I love it... but I want her to wear the pants, so I made her a new shirt that is more her style last night.

She loves it.

Who knew??
These pants have been hanging in the closet for months... now she'll probably wear them every week.

I got the fabric from my Mom and it is the best feeling stuff! It's a lightweight twill that doesn't wrinkle at all. I just loved working with it!

I appliqued the shirt with this peace sign applique with daisies. She is really into peace signs right now.
I guess she thinks they're grown up...

Also, she thinks she's too old for bows and I asked me to please just make this one a clip.
:(

My little girl is getting so grown up.

I made Lucy some pants, too, and we actually found a shirt to match her orange minky Thanksgiving pants. Ella's birthday shirt from last year.

Of course, then she decided to run across the yard for the bus and got completely wet.

I had to run and get her off the bus, change her clothes, and run her up to school because the pants are long and were dripping wet.

I think I may need to hem them up for her a little bit.

But first, I'm going to run to Wal-Mart and get some long sleeved t-shirts to applique.
I need to make 8 shirts to match those pants today!
fun!

Ella's Christmas Winter Twirl Dress and another winter coat

...and she just couldn't wait until December to wear it.

I let her wear it to church this Sunday, but was hoping she'd hold off wearing it to school until next month. No such luck...
She had to wear it this morning.

I made it last month as a test for Ellie Inspired's Winter Twirl pattern and just fell in love with it.
I used a beautiful knit velveteen that my Mom bought me a while back and some striped minky for the trim. The top is finished with some fold over elastic in my stash that, happily, matched perfectly and then we just tied the satin ribbon around the waist.

I wanted to embroider a snowflake on the bodice, but Ella wasn't having it.
I also think a monogram would be really beautiful on it... but you know how I feel about monograms.

I wan't really thrilled about the quality of the photos. Mostly because I could NOT get this girl to stop moving. The dress is a full circle skirt and with that length and in this heavier weight knit, it really is super bouncy and twirly. I kinda want one...

So, I was going to snap some new pictures of her this morning, when I realized that I hadn't even blogged the coat she's wearing. So... I just took some pictures of her coat.
It was freezing today.

I made it last year and wasn't happy with the photos I took. I meant to take more and never did and then it just got lost in the never ending list of things I sew and never blog about.
Here she is last year when I made this in late August. Holy Moley! She's changed. :(

The inside is fully lined, but I hated the way the lining looked with this busy dress in the photo.

I do love this coat, even though it's getting a little snug on Ella.
It's made from Simplicity pattern 2534, which is a Project Runway pattern. I love the princess seams and the full lining and the pockets. I cut one out exactly the same for Lucy, but never put it together. The pink fabric is wool and I think I was allergic to it, or something, because when I was making it, my nose was running and my eyes, hands, and nose were so itchy. After that, I didn't want to work with it again... although I may just put it together for Lucy anyhow.

My Mom bought me the wool and the lining and some minky for the collar, but I ended up buying some velvet for the collar and covered buttons.

I accidentally ripped the second button off the coat this morning... dang it.
Can you tell?

I guess I'll have to look for that velvet to make a replacement button for it.
Because she does look quite stunning in it.
It sort of kills me to think of her running around the playground at school in it.

Another reason I'm hesitant to make Lucy's... see her running thru the rain soaked yard in the background? Guess someone didn't learn their lesson from yesterday. sigh....

And just for fun, want to see their new earmuffs? I got them at Target yesterday and just love them.
Earmuffs are a must when it's cold, but you don't want to mess up your hair.

Ella's: elegant and fancy and pretentious

Lucy's: silly, whimsical, and fun

They just fit them so well.
I love these kids.

They're growing so fast.
I wish I could slow time for a few years.

Whoville Day!

$

I got a note in the girl's folders this Wednesday letting us know that the school is doing Christmas Spirit Days each Friday until Christmas! Awesome!!! Except for the fact that I only had one day to make 2 costumes for Whoville Day... and I was spending Thursday morning with William's class field trip to see the Nutcracker ballet.

This week was possibly the most difficult project I've taken on with so little time, but I got most of it done.

Ella chose to be Little Cindy Lou Who and Lucy chose the Grinch.
Lucy wasn't as happy with the way hers turned out... poor baby.

She was adamant that her face and hair had to be green, and until the point of the makeup and hairspray, she was pretty happy. After that, she kept saying, "I'm so ugly." Broke my heart.
But, really, kid? You picked the Grinch...

This is her mad, Grinch face. ha! She's so funny.

Her costume went together very easy. I made her a catsuit from Kwik Sew pattern 3887. It's one of the many patterns my Mom let me take with me last time I went home. It seems like I'm always needing a catsuit pattern and this one is GREAT. I made it out of swimsuit fabric, which worked perfectly, but made my little Grinch a little cold.

The belly part is made from some furry fleece that I've had for years. I made my nephew a stuffed dinosaur from it back in 2002 or something... wow... that makes me feel really old.
I used Simplicity pattern 9318 for that part, but not finishing any of the edges. Then I just stitched a 'three sizes too small' heart on there with red felt and added some velcro at the shoulders.

Ella's was a bit of a disaster, except for her hair-do, which I think turned out pretty awesome!

And with that little Grinch bow... .gasp. So cute.

We watched the Grinch who stole Christmas a million times trying to figure out what costume to make (I'm so literal. I want every detail to be just like the movie) So I wanted Ella to have a cape, but she informed me she hates capes (... sigh... so much for that fortune I spent on red corduroy and Little Red Riding hood fabric...) so we made this Cindy Lou Who inspired coat.

She needed a new coat anyhow, since the last one I made her is lacking all practical elements and the one from last year is getting snug.

For this one, I used McCall's 6641 again, but chose view B this time. I love how it looks and it went together pretty easy except for this crazy shedding fabric from Hobby Lobby. I wish it looked a little classier and less whimsical, but she loves it.

And aside from the fact that one of the sleeves is sewed in upside down... yes... upside down....
it turned out pretty good for whipping it up in a few hours.

I had to call it quit after the coat, though. It was meant to have some cute new dress or pajamas under it, and I DID start cutting it out, but ran out of steam and had her wear her costume from last year. It's so cute anyways.

So, overall, pretty successful.
Two, pretty happy, kids.

The next spirit day is 'Your favorite Christmas character' day.
Any guesses on what they'll be?

Elf!

So... as I was changing my profile picture on facebook the other day to my Elf picture, it dawned on me that I never showed you guys all the costumes I made for Halloween (including my Elf costume).

I took this one myself, because I wasn't too happy with the ones my husband took... but I've had so many requests for them (most of those coming from my little sister, Judy), so here you go.
The full body shot.
Complete with these hilarious yellow pants I made using a pair of my workout pants as a pattern.
ha!

I started cutting them out at 5 o'clock in the evening on Halloween night... yep.... completely dressed except the pants... tracing a pair of my workout pants on top of this yellow fabric in the living room floor in my panties and elf costume. Totally making me think of that I love Lucy episode where she tries to make her own dress and cuts the carpet. {I love "I Love Lucy'}!

Kinda wish I had a picture of that. hahahhaaha... actually no.

They turned out awful and fit even worse, but I still wore them.

And had a blast.
My kids love when I dress up and I love dressing up, too.

You should have seen some of the looks I got on Halloween night. Some of you are probably making them now.

I don't care. I had fun.
I'm a 33 year old woman who loves dressing up.

I took my costume with me to TX for Thanksgiving with the intent of wearing it out shopping on Black Friday (would't that get some laughs!!!), but it was so hot in TX, I just couldn't handle wearing it. I tried it on for my cousin and then slipped it back into the car. Maybe next year.

Anyways, there you have it.
My Halloween costume!

If you want to make your own, I used Simplicity pattern 2542. It ran big!
I think I'll be making another elf costume this week, too, and maybe using Simplicity 2537.  I just used it to make the gingerbread costume for my cousin. It turned out SO cute!

80's aerobic instructor costume

This was a fun costume to make!

I made it for one of my little sister's customers, because she was just too busy at Halloween to get it done.

I used Jalie pattern 2317 for the leotard, but added these adorable black bands at the bottom.

I love the way they look and it was so much easier than hemming.

Plus, they match the black that she wanted in the black monogram.

This is the first time I've made this pattern, but I loved it, especially how the lining seams are completely encased.

The legwarmers were made by cutting off the heal and toe and using the inside part as the band. Easy peasy. You can find a thousand tutorials online for how to do it. The socks came from Wal-Mart. I thought they had the perfect 80's flair.

To top it off, I just tied a little knot in some knit fabric and then formed a circle for the headband.
I wish I had a picture of the baby wearing it... this is 12-18 month size, but I never got a picture from her. :(

Snuggly Bunny costume

This is one of the cutest costumes I've ever made.
It's been on my 'want to make' list for a long time, so I was so thrilled to make it for my cousin's little girl Rowan. Isn't she just the most adorable little thing!!!?

I used Simplicity pattern 7313, which is out of print, but I had it in my stash from when William was a baby. I made him that cow costume.

I had plans to make Ella the bunny one, but never got it done.

I made Rowan's out of minky dot and baby pink satin. It's so snuggly and adorable... I wish these pictures did it justice.

I love the minor details on this pattern, like the little hand mitts

and sweet bunny booties.

I just used some craft felt with Heat and Bond lite for the pawprints.

Squeel!!! Aren't they adorable?

The hardest part was deciding what color and size to make the bow. I wanted it to be sweet, but not too big that she would be chewing or pulling at it.

I think it turned out so cute,
even though these pictures are atrocious.

Good thing my cousin's wife sent some adorable photos.

I just love this one of Rowan and her daddy (my cousin, Doug).

Precious, right?

Gingerbread boy!

WARNING: This is going to be the cutest gingerbread boy you've ever seen.

I mean!
Look at that face!

I couldn't resist offering to make his costume for my cousin, Tiffany, who wanted her little ginger boy to be a gingerbread man.

I used pattern Simplicity 2537. It was so fun to make and I was completely happy with the results.

I used fleece and ric rack and massive buttons.

My favorite part, though, is the head part and little bowtie.

Cute, right?!

I made him this little trick or treat bag to match and another little tote bag with a dinosaur for him to take to school.

I never use patterns for tote bags. I just make them up as I go, or in this case, use the fabrics I have on hand to determine the measurements. I love the linings!

I wish I had more time and money to sew for all my extended family members. It's so much fun to see them in things I've made. But with 3 kids of my own, 10 nieces and nephews and countless other cousins... it's impossible to outfit them all in handmade goodies. :(

I only just got to meet this addition to the family this Thanksgiving and he's almost 2 years old. It was such a joy to meet him and spend time with my cousin and her family.

Look how fun she and her husband are. I wish Jerry would do family Halloween costumes.

Maybe he can wear it at Christmas, too! He couldn't be more adorable if he tried.

Little Miss Derby Jacket

I'm baaaack! It's been a while guys and you've sent me some really sweet messages. It's nice to know I've been missed. :)

I was just so busy this year with the holidays. I was determined to have handmade gifts under the tree for my kids and I did have a few {not as many as I would have liked, but I was happy and so were they.}

Then after the holidays, the Mr., Ella, and I had the flu and it was AWFUL! We were each in bed for over a week and of course, the illness was consecutive, not at the same time, so it just drug on forever.

I celebrated my 34th birthday last week, so I just let the holiday draw out a little longer!

Buuuuut... it's been a week since my birthday, we're all feeling better, the kids are back in school, and the Christmas decorations are put up, so I guess it's time to kick my butt back to work.

I've got three new patterns in the beginning stages and one new one I'm sketching. I've got a ton of new things to show you that I've made this past month and a number of new things I've tested for other pattern designers.

The first is this new pattern by Jocole patterns~ the Little Miss Derby Jacket pattern {available now!}

Jodi put out a call for testers on her facebook page and I was so lucky to get chosen as a tester. I've only tested for Jodi twice now (the first time was her leggings pattern), but I have purchased a ton of her patterns and I'm always so happy with them! This jacket pattern was no different.

I was initially drawn to it because of the mature look of it, balanced with the sweet girly ruffles, and most of all~ that gigantic bow in the back. LOVE!!!

I knew immediately what I wanted it to look like and I had all the fabrics at home already!
I used this charcoal and silver pinstiped suiting fabric, hot pink lightweight twill and a flannel backed black satin for the lining.

I knew I wanted to topstitch the jacket with hot pink! I love the faux princess seaming detail on the jacket. I'm not crazy about the heart buttons, but they were the only ones I could find to match and I do like how they 'young' the jacket up for Ella and her baby doll.

Each of Jodi's patterns come with a matching 18 inch doll pattern as well as the multiple girl sizes she offers. LOVE that!!!

Ella and Lucy both received American Girl dolls from my parents for Christmas this year, so it's going to be the year of the baby doll clothes at our house, so I had to make the matching doll jacket.

I made them out of the same exact fabrics and finished both fully lined jackets in about 6 hours, including cutting out time.

Big Bow on the back... my favorite part!

Ella wanted to make sure I got a shot of their matching shoes.

Can you tell how much she loves these jackets?

I couldn't believe she went for these fabric combinations... she's getting so grown up. :(

You can purchase the Little Miss Derby Jacket here on the Jocole website and make some for your little one. Tell Jodi I sent you!

Clara Nightgown and Little Frosty the Snowman

Okay... remember when I told you that the girls school was having a spirit day each Friday?
well... probably not... but they did.

First was the Whoville Day at school and I made a Grinch and a Cindy Lou Who costume.
Lucy won that costume contest. Ella won this one.

It was Christmas Storybook Day~ a day to dress up as your favorite Christmas book character.
Ella chose Clara from the Nutcracker and Lucy chose Frosty the Snowman.

I loooove both their costumes! Lucy's is a redo from last year, so I'll tell you about Ella's.

For the Clara nightgown I used Ellie Inspired's All Tucked in Gown {scroll down on that link} for most of it, but changed the bodice to her Nonie's girl slim fit bodice! {Did you know Laura has slim, average, and plus size options on that pattern? Awesome!!!}

This is the first time, really, since I made the girl's baptism gowns years ago that I have done any kind of lace work, so I really had fun with it. I knew I wanted it to be red and white, so I just bought some of those cheap laces and a couple rolls of that 49 cent satin ribbon. You can make gowns like this inexpensive if you shop those tiny rolls of trim. You only need s small bit. I also made the entire gown out of $1.99 a yard white broadcloth, so I made this gown for a steal!

I have to say in better inspection of these photos, I didn't really get any good fashion shots. She was way too excited about her Nutcracker and I didn't think to make her sit it down. grrrr

But isn't she just a doll in her sweet Christmas gown and big, red bow in her hair?

I was so mad. I sponge rolled her hair for the spirit day and it lasted about 3 minutes before all the curls fell out. I wish I would have thought to get a picture of the back when it looked so pretty!
This is the best one I could get.

I did manage to remember to take a picture of the tucks, ruffle, and lace beading which I wove this satin ribbon thru. I love it, sooooooo much!

Little details like that make such a difference.
I HATED ironing and sewing all those tucks, but I LOVE the way they turned out.

Actually, I love the way the whole thing turned out... and so does Ella... and she really loved winning that costume contest. ha!

And look at Lucy... isn't she a sweet little snowman?
She was LOVING that corncob pipe I found at Hobby Lobby!
Can you tell?

So, there you go. Storybook Christmas Character Day!

G.I.Joe Sleepover Pajamas

A couple months ago, I decided that I would have a sewing week for just for William!
Poor baby still loves mommy to sew for him and I just don't do it as much as I should.
And you know... he not only likes to be sewn for, but he really needs it. He's so slim, that nothing really fits him properly unless I make it.

My favorite thing I made during William's sewing week were these G.I.Joe pajamas.

I used the Oliver + s Sleepover Pajamas pattern for these pajamas. I had a New Look pattern like this when William was little and he LOVED the pajamas like that. I was so excited when I found another style like them.

I got this G.I.Joe flannel at our local Wal-Mart for a steal. They had it marked down to $2 a yard. Score! G.I.Joe's remind me of my little brother, so I bought extra just in case he ever has a little boy!

I love the details of this pattern with the contrast bands, cuffs, and waistband and the little pockets... perfect for holding a little ninja, G.I.Joe man, handkerchief, whatever... kids love pockets.

He loves these pajamas and with some adjustments, they fit him so perfectly. You have no idea how hard it was to keep him still for this photo shoot. He just wanted to do all his ninja moves. Of course, I had to get pictures of all his poses.... hahahaha

Isn't he adorable?

School Shirt Re-fashion~ Lucy

Every year the kids get school shirts for their grade that they are meant to wear to field trips and such.
Every year... they only wear them on those specific days.

I wanted to change that and get more use out of them. So, this year, I took it upon myself to cut up the school shirts and make school dresses.

I made Lucy's first and man.... she was so afraid that she or I were gonna get 'in trouble' for it.

The first thing she said when she tried it on was, "Oh MOM!!! I love it!... but I do think we're going to get in trouble." ha

Actually, my Mom was pretty worried that I did it, too. But I've never been one for rules... and they didn't say 'you can't cut up your kid's shirt', so I went for it.

I just thought that her shirt was SOOOOO ugly. It started off with that ABCD thing on the front and that winged guitar thing on the back.

It was just so biker chick... not for my sweet, bubbly kindergartner.

I didn't use a pattern for this, I just cut and sewed bits until I had a dress. I did the entire thing on the serger, including the ruffle, the night before her field trip to the Pumpkin Patch. (yes, I made this in October...)

She loved it. And not only did we not get in trouble, but her teacher and principal raved about how cute she was and paraded her around to every classroom to show the teachers. To say the least, Lucy felt pretty special.

As you can guess, Ella came home asking me to cut her shirt up that night.

It feels so good to cross stuff off your list!
This was one of those projects that I told myself everyday for a few weeks that I needed to do, so when I completed them last week, it felt SO AWESOME!

... and really, it took more time picking fabrics and deciding what patterns to use than it did to actually make them...

We were down to three scarves at the house; William's dog one, which is small and he thinks he's too old for (I guess he is :( ...), a black and white striped one of mine that the kids fight over, and a strawberry shortcake one from when the girls were babies (I guess they're too old for Strawberry Shortcake, too) No one ever wanted to wear that one.

So, to alleviate the headache of the scarf fighting every morning before school, I made each of them their own personalized scarf. They each picked their fabrics. Ella picked her style... because she was the only one that cared. As usual...

She chose the scarf from our book Sewing MODKID style. It was simple to cut out and make and I love the way it looks. It's not super warm because it's made from knits, but it's very cute and long. Ella was insistent upon using these fabrics, so it's a bit wonky. I had to piece the hearts like crazy {we only had scraps from these pants} and some of the bits aren't on grain... not a good idea... but the scarf is cute and she's happy and I have NO scraps left! Terrific!

I like how it looks with her winter coat and it will fit for a long time. This sucker is LONG!

Lucy chose the No-Tie Scarf from our Oliver + s Little Things to Sew book. Actually, that's not true.
I picked these two to make. Ella picked the one she wanted and Lucy got the other one... eh.... she doesn't care.

I did let her pick the lining fabric. She picked owls!

I love this scarf, too. Although, I won't put those scrappy bits of fabric at the end next time. The instructions are a bit fiddly in one part, but in the end I figured it out. If you're having trouble, feel free to email me and I can walk you thru it.

William's was made using my own design. My Mom has one kind of like this with pockets at the end. All boys love pockets... but I should have made it longer and wider. I didn't want to piece the plaid flannel, so I just made it the length of the flannel + folded up the edge of the fleece to make the pocket. It won't last long before he's too tall for it, but he likes it!

This was on pajama day, so he's wearing his G.I.Joe pajamas... what a cutie.

I couldn't believe he chose plaid... he's getting so big. :(

So, there they are. The scarves that were on my to-do list for weeks~ now crossed off! Hooray!

I've got lots of birthday presents to sew and cross off my list today!

So after Lucy got paraded around for her spirit shirt, Ella came home begging for me to cut into hers.

It was a little bit more difficult to cut Ella's up, because I actually thought it was really cute.

It was 80's themed with the front like this:

I love the little 'button' that say's I love 1st grade! I used to love buttons!
{okay.... confession... I still have a bunch of them, including a pretty cool Bart Simpson one in my junk jewelry drawer...}

And the back like this:

The pac man totally reminds me of my Dad. He used to love Pac Man.

It was a simple re-fashion, though. I just cut the bodice and sleeves down to make it tighter, added a new funky neckline. Put some stripes on the bodice and then cut a circle skirt out of this adorable heart knit. I love that heart knit sooooo much.

I didn't even hem the bottom. I just serged the edges. All done.

Happy Customer!

So happy, she made me do two of them. I'll show you the other one tomorrow.

Warning: Cole's Corner and Creations is not responsible for any parties who cut up their kids school shirts and get in trouble.

I did get word this week from one of my readers that she got in trouble for doing this to her kids shirt.
Sorry Shawn! hahahahahaha

NEW! Hi Low Ruffle Skirt Pattern

Guess what?
I just put out my 8th PDF sewing pattern!
It's a skirt this time and I just LOVE it, soooo much.

The Hi Low Ruffle Skirt Pattern

I started seeing the High Low skirts on pinterest a few months back and thought how much my Ella would love them.

She does.
It's just the perfect compromise for us, because I love short skirts and she loves maxi skirts!
A little bit of something for us both!

This skirt is designed to hit a bit above the knee in the center front gradually getting longer, hitting knee length on the side and calf length in the very back.

It's very easy to add length to it, though, if you like longer skirts. Some of my testers added length to make them a little longer.

I'm just LOVING all of my tester photos!
It really helps show the versatility of the pattern. Changing the fabric makes such a difference in the look!

Take a look at all these adorable skirts:

This one is made by my little sister, Megan, in a leopard cotton print.

Isn't my niece adorable?!
I love her.
Ella made me make her a leopard skirt after she saw Sophie's!

This one is made by Diana and I just love it.
It's so sweet and feminine! You can tell how much the little girl loves it.

Sivje added a little bit of length to hers and paired it with some winter tights! Showing that the hi low skirt looks good in any season!

Great for the beach, too. Yara made this one in stripes~ love it!

These are made from quilter's cotton in little girl sizes and are just so sweet and adorable!
This one from Julie. I love how angelic her daughter looks in this picture!

This one is by Angela. I just love her daughter's little sassy pose!

This pattern comes in a wide range of sizes from 3-16!

Tammy made a bunch for all her daughters! How cute are these?!

Equally cute on the little ones and her older daughter.
I love how it's styled here!

Tara also made three for each of her daughters {a 12, 14, and 16}, substituting the ruffle for some eyelet lace and using some of her husband's old shirts for the skirts, leaving the buttons on the front. So cute!

Some of my other testers left of the ruffle as well and did a quick rolled hem.
This one from Jana out of a pretty, floral, cotton.

This one without the ruffle and a rolled hem makes an adorable dance skirt, made by Danielle.

She loved it so much, she made two!

My little sister, Megan, even made one for herself in a 14/16, with a rolled hem. She is 5'5 and wears a size 4.

This skirt is great for the tweens and teens, because it's trendy and simple and they can pick out their own fabrics.

Look at this one Linda made her granddaughter, Moriah. It's so bright and summery!

You can use any type of light to mid-weight woven fabric on this skirt~ changing the look completely.

My tester, Theresa, made hers out of this silky fabric for her daughter.

And Melissa made her daughter one from this fancy, flocked, taffeta.

Jessica made hers with eyelet on the hem instead of the ruffle, too, and even made this top and headband to match! Adorable.

Jenny made hers out of this cute black and white fabric {I have some in my stash}

and then realized that it was cute as a top, too! I hadn't even thought of that!

And. last, but certainly not least is this adorable ensemble by Bridgett. I just love all the pink and bows!
Perfect for Valentine's day!

So.... see how different it can look? I just love seeing what everyone comes up with!
I've even starting getting some customer photos, too!

I got this one from Stacey this morning on my facebook page. She's already made 4 Hi Low Ruffle Skirts. They are so fast and fun to make! Thank you for letting me use your photo Stacey!

and a huge Thank you and virtual hug to all my brilliant testers for their hard work and lovely photos!

Get your Hi Low Ruffle skirt pattern here and get in on the fun! If you purchase and make it... I would really LOVE to see what you make with the pattern!

You can email your pictures to me at colescreations@live.com or post them to my facebook page!
